Mars Landscapes
These welded steel sculptures were inspired by Ray Bradbury’s “The Martian Chronicles,” a 1950 series of short stories documenting successive expeditions from Earth to Mars. Bradbury wrote of what happens when these space travelers land on a planet they assume is uninhabited, but which in reality has an indigenous population with a long cultural history. These sculptures represent the mountains of the Red Planet, as well as space vehicles taking off and landing, and the flags left by successive expeditions.
